Ben Simmons has only played one year in the NBA, but he’s already respected around the league and in the media as one of the game’s top young players.
As the 2018 Rookie of the Year and cover athlete of Australia and New Zealand’s NBA 2K19, Simmons’ star is rising. On Thursday, the 22-year-old was named to SLAM’s Top 50 players of 2018, coming in at No. 18 on the list.
SLAM has released its list in increments over the past couple weeks, and Simmons is the only Philadelphia 76ers player to make it so far. They also have Simmons ranked at No. 8 among point guards.
Here’s what the magazine had to say about the young point guard:
Year 2? Year 3? Doesn’t matter what you call it, Ben Simmons is going to be a problem. The young point guard is running the show out in Philly. And it should be a good one.
Last season Simmons averaged 15.8 points, 8.2 assists and 8.1 rebounds per game. The NBA’s annual GM survey was released Tuesday, and he was named as one of the players most likely to have a “breakout year.”
With Simmons leading the Sixers along with Joel Embiid, Philly’s next step will be to make the jump from being a playoff team to being a title contender.
