Joel Embiid could be the first 76er to average 27 and 13 since Wilt

Joel Embiid is having his best season to date, and it’s not too surprising that his name is being mentioned alongside NBA and Philadelphia 76ers’ legend Wilt Chamberlain.

Embiid is currently averaging 27.0 points per game and 13.3 rebounds. According to Stat Muse, the only other Philadelphia 76ers’ player to average 27-plus points a game and 13-plus rebounds a game is Chamberlain.

This season Embiid has been one of the best scorers (5th in total points) as well as rebounders (4th in total rebounds) in the league. He boasts 19 games where he scored at least 30 points and grabbed at least 10 rebounds. He’s played in 42 contests. That means that almost half the time he suits up, he finishes with at least 30 and 10.

Embiid has the complete arsenal, and he showed that during a 20-second stretch Sunday against the New York Knicks:

Chasing history set by Chamberlain, a legend whose name hangs overhead at Wells Fargo Center should make Embiid very proud. He’s been a dominant player for the Sixers so far this year, and they’ll need him to continue if they want to reach their full potential.

Doing so might allow the 24-year old center to achieve what one of the all-time greats achieved in the Philadelphia uniform before him.
