Monty Williams is a candidate for Sacramento Kings coaching job

Philadelphia 76ers assistant coach Monty Williams is garnering interest to be the next head coach of the Sacramento Kings, per reports from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

The Kings fired head coach Dave Joerger on Thursday, per ESPN. Joerger led the Kings to a 39-43 record this season, their best record since the 2005-2006 season.

As the Kings prepare to look for a new coach, San Antonio Spurs assistant coach Ettore Messina will be a candidate along with Williams, per The Athletic’s Sam Amick. Amick also reported that Los Angeles Lakers head coach Luke Walton is the Kings’ top candidate.

Williams will also reportedly be a candidate for other positions, per the ESPN report. He joined the Sixers last summer when he accepted the team’s top assistant position. He has a 173-221 coaching record, as he was the coach of the New Orleans Pelicans, which used to be named the Hornets, from 2010-2015.
