Warriors have second-most expensive team in NBA behind Trail Blazers

Though the Golden State Warriors are in transition, they have still been among the NBA’s elite the past five seasons. And maintaining that pedigree means having an expensive roster.

According to Spotrac, the Warriors currently have the second-most expensive team in the league in terms of total cap. Golden State has approximately $139 million on its books for the 2019-20 season. The Portland Trail Blazers are the most expensive team in the league, totaling about $143 million in total cap.

One of the Warriors’ newer contracts also ranks among their highest. Former Brooklyn Nets guard D’Angelo Russell received a four-year max contract worth $117 million in a sign-and-trade.

Along with Russell’s contract, the Warriors also signed Klay Thompson to a five-year max deal worth $190 million. Thompson, a three-time champion, has been a key piece for the Warriors, starring in his role as perhaps the best catch-and-shoot option in the league.

Though Russell and Thompson earned new contracts, the Warriors also already have some lucrative contracts on the books.

Steph Curry has three years remaining on his deal, including the 2019-20 season. Curry signed a five-year max contract in 2017 worth $201 million. In addition to Curry, Draymond Green is owed $18.5 million next season; he will be an unrestricted free agent next summer.
