Houston Rockets guard Russell Westbrook is new to Houston, but he already has a fan there that has been rocking with him for a while.
Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson told media Thursday after the team’s opening training camp session that he is a fan of Westbrook’s and has been since he was a kid.
“I just love his energy, I love his mentality,” Watson told reporters. “I love what he brings to the table each and every game, and he’s a guy that I could look up to.”
Westbrook was traded to the team earlier this month from the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for Chris Paul and future draft picks.
With Westbrook joining the Rockets, he’s back with former Thunder teammate James Harden, the NBA’s reigning scoring champion. Whether those two can mesh well will be an important part of the team’s success.
Watson being a fan of Westbrook’s is cool to see. Houston has the Rockets, Texans and Astros as its big sports teams, and Watson is one of many elite athletes in H-Town.
As one of the best young quarterbacks in the NFL, Watson has shown he has the potential to lead the Texans, as they went to the playoffs last season. They lost in the AFC wild card game 21-7 against the Indianapolis Colts.
