What Odell Beckham did during Cleveland Browns training camp Day 1

BEREA, Ohio – As the Cleveland Browns came out onto the practice field to open their 2019 training camp Thursday, a small contingent of fans chanted their names.

New Browns receiver Odell Beckham Jr. demonstrated what playing with quarterback Baker Mayfield will be like, making some impressive plays and receiving some love from the fans. Here’s some of what he did Thursday during Day 1 of training camp.

1. The entrance

When Beckham trotted out onto the field, fans chanted “OBJ.” See one angle of it in the video above, and another here:

2. A near one-handed catch

The receivers did a catching drill near the beginning of practice, and fans nearly saw Beckham break out his signature one-handed catch.

“One hand, Odell,” a fan said as Beckham went to catch the pass. Beckham didn’t come down with it, though. You can see the play as he is in the background during this drill.

3. Route running

A little bit after 10:30 a.m., Beckham and the receivers worked on route running. During this drill, fans on the far side of the field away from the doors of the indoor facility got to see Beckham up close.

“Welcome to Cleveland, 13!” one fan yelled as Beckham went through the route running drill.

4. The OBJ-Baker red zone connection

Beckham and Mayfield have the potential to be one of the most elite receiver-quarterback combos in the NFL, and fans got a peek at that on the first day of camp.

The Browns worked on a red zone drill around 11:25 a.m., and Mayfield found Beckham in the end zone.

Scoring inside the 20 is an area the Browns can continue to build on from last season. Last season Mayfield completed 66.7 passes inside the 20, and he threw 20 touchdowns.

5. A nice catch in 11 on 11s

Beckham didn’t come down with the one-handed catch during drills, but in the middle of practice, he wowed fans with a catch during 11 on 11s.

As he ran his route, Beckham went up for the ball but didn’t initially make the catch. As he came down and stayed with the ball, though, he snagged it.

The catch was one of Beckham’s best during the first day of camp.
