Shai Gilgeous-Alexander likes Chris Paul challenging him in drills

Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is learning under veteran guard Chris Paul, and so far he’s not shied away from challenges.

The Thunder’s team Twitter account posted a video Thursday that showed Gilgeous-Alexander saying he has been beating Paul in shooting drills. He has appreciated Paul challenging him in different shooting drills. Gilgeous-Alexander also said Paul challenges him to see the game in various ways.

“Obviously he’s been doing this a lot longer than I have, so I get to pick his brain a little bit and learn things,” Gilgeous-Alexander said.

Gilgeous-Alexander and Paul are both new to the Thunder. A second-year guard, Gilgeous-Alexander was traded from the Los Angeles Clippers to OKC with Danilo Gallinari in exchange for Paul George.

Paul, who’s heading into his 15th season, was traded from the Houston Rockets in exchange for Russell Westbrook.

Gilgeous-Alexander winning shooting drills against Paul shows he is a capable shooter. In his rookie year, Gilgeous-Alexander shot 36.7% from the three-point line. During his career, Paul has shot 37% from three.

In August, Gilgeous-Alexander mentioned he was learning from Paul, per Maddie Lee of The Oklahoman. Gilgeous-Alexander told reporters then that he grew up admiring Paul.

With Gilgeous-Alexander likely being a key part of OKC’s future, it’s going to be imperative for him to continue learning from a future Hall of Famer in Paul.
