CLEVELAND, Ohio – Brecksville-Broadview Heights continued its dominance of high school gymnastics Friday night.
The Bees scored 148.350 points to win their 17th straight OHSAA team state championship, with their title streak dating back to 2004. Brecksville-Broadview Heights took first in the vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise. The state championship was held at Hilliard Bradley High School in Hilliard, Ohio.
With the win, coach Maria Schneider, the daughter of retired coach Joan Ganim, accomplished her first state title in leading the team. The Brunswick Blue Devils earned runner-up for the first time in program history.
Other northeast Ohio teams had quality performances in Hilliard. North Royalton, Hudson and Berea-Midpark were also in the top six. North Royalton placed fourth, Hudson came in fifth and Berea-Midpark finished sixth.
The individual competition will take place Saturday at Hilliard, with events set to start at noon.
